Dupree knocks Snakes off box office top
LONDON (Reuters) - Three’s-a-crowd comedy “You, Me and Dupree” shot straight to the top of the box office in its opening weekend, knocking cult shocker “Snakes on a Plane” down to second spot after only a week.
Starring Owen Wilson as the perpetual bachelor intruding on the newly wed bliss of Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon, Dupree defied a cool reception from the critics to rake in 1.6 million pounds.
Third, unchanged from last week, was Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” which has now taken nearly 50 million pounds during its eight weeks in the charts, according to Screen International on Wednesday.
Fourth, down two places, was Disney/Pixar’s “Cars” and fifth, down one, was another animated Summer success, “Monster House.”
